It comprises both medicine and psychology, and requires personal judgment and empathy which distinguishes psychiatric nursing from any other medical specialties. Yes, nurses have indeed a great deal of knowledge of human nature; psychiatric nurses, however, are taking this knowledge to another level. Clinical interviews, diagnoses, typical behaviours and prescription medications: all that belongs to everyday practice of psychiatric nurses. That is why psychiatric nursing programmes are so demanding.
